Brashear is a New York Ranger…

Donald Brashear is a Ranger.  In case my imagery isn’t clear enough, I’m not exactly a fan of the New York Rangers acquisition.  Now for some reason whenever anything happens I am quick to think of a movie moment or line that appropriately sums up the event or how I’m feeling.  Today, it was these three.

Principle Anderson saying “NOOOO” when he realized Eric was threatening to reveal his past as “The Revolting Blob” best sums up what I was thinking when I initially started reading the rumors circulate.   Just a stunned, scared, horrified “noooo.” Please say this isn’t happening.

Then I heard the rumors were true.  Cue Jessica Rabbit screaming “OH MY GOD IT’S DIIIIIIIIIIP!!!”  Replace “dip” with “true” and there you have it. I’m fairly certain my hands raised to my mouth in a similar fashion as well.  Instead of my hometown “Toon Town” being destroyed by dip,  Glen Sather had just revealed Donald Brashear from behind a curtain to ruin everything I’ve ever known about hockey and the New York Rangers.  Donald Brashear is the enemy.

Lastly, all I could really think of was why?  All of my disdain for Donald aside, this team needs scoring, especially after unloading our first line center for cap reasons, and this is the first move we make?  I now know how Willie was feeling when she saw Indy grabbing a raft  when it clearly wasn’t appropriate to the situation and I think it also appropriately sums up how most are feeling right now, especially with rumors circulating that our next signing is possibly Neil.

“We’re not sinking…WE’RE CRAAAAAASHING!!!!”

writer’s note: As I wrote this Marian Gaborik has become a New York Ranger and Neil is staying in Ottawa.   It changes my opinion on the matter drastically, but this article still nicely sums up my feelings as things transpired on Day 1 of free agency.
